A Quarter Peal with my Family

When I found out that my family were all coming round for Sunday lunch I thought it would be good  if we could all ring a quarter peal at Marsworth together. When trying to decide what to ring, my Mum suggested I could call Plain Bob Doubles, which would be my first quarter peal of doubles as conductor. (A few weeks before I had called a quarter of St Nicholas Minimus, which only involved ringing and counting to 53 plain courses!) I thought I would give it a try and as my family were there, if we hadn’t have got it, it wouldn’t have mattered too much. I was ringing the four so I could easily call the 60 from there. I then called myself unaffected for 2 extents followed by the 5, 3 and then the 2. Finally I called myself unaffected for a further two extents again to make the 1260. The quarter peal went really well, the striking was good and I managed to get all the calls in the right places.

Once I had called ‘that’s all’ I was very relieved and happy especially as all the band were close family  – my Grandma on the treble, my Aunt on the 2, my Mum on the 3, my Uncle on the 5 and my Grandad on the tenor. This year I am aiming for 50 quarter peals and I am currently up to 44. Six to go!
