Speaking and ringing at the same time is more difficult than it sounds and saying “go and stop” to a plain course is the first step in learning to conduct.
Before calling for the first time you should be familiar with the method and, if at all possible, have a competent band around you. At this stage you will not be expected to put others right if they go off line but you should not go wrong yourself.
Watch someone else first. See when they call “Go” (the handstroke) and when they say “That’s all” (again at the handstroke.)
Choose a simple method such as Plain Bob or Grandsire Doubles. Plain Hunt is excluded from this challenge.
Wait for the rounds to settle into a steady rhythm before you call ‘Go.’ And don’t forget to say “That’s all” at the end
