Information

There are still a few places left on this interesting workshop at St Mary Abotts, Kensington, on Saturday 4th August from 2.30 - 5.30pm. It will suit ringers who have no previous experience of using a simulator, as well as those who may have some experience.

Beltower is a simulator programme that runs on PC’s (the other two are Abel and Virtual Belfry). Of the three, Beltower has the most functionality. The aim of this half day workshop is to explain the key features of Beltower and how it can be used to take people from ringing rounds to ringing the treble to methods. Once someone can do this, progress on to ringing methods inside is straightforward.

St Mary Abbots has six dumb bells, each with their own PC. Delegates will work in pairs, two to each ‘workstation’. We will practice a series of exercises, with delegates operating a simulator themselves to ring each one.

Each exercise will be preceded with an explanation of how to operate the software to undertake the exercise, and there will also be opportunities to ask questions between each exercise. We will also use the exercises to introduce features such as ‘moving ringers’, the striking window and cooperative timing; also how to operate the software up to ring more advanced methods.

The Workshop will be led by Derek Ballard, the author of Beltower, and delegates will receive a handout explaining the material covered in the workshop.

St Mary Abbots is a few minutes’ walk from High Street Kensington Tube station.

Closing date for bookings - Saturday 21 July – don’t delay!
