Ring at a tower when on holiday

My Ringing

holiday ringBy visiting towers some distance from home on their practice night or on a Sunday you will learn about the culture of ringing and how different practices are run.

Anywhere in the world where bells are rung full circle you will (with very few exceptions) always be made welcome if you introduce yourself as a bell ringer and be invited to join in with the ringing.

In some towers you may be considered to be an asset as you’ll make a contribution to the progress of the local band, and most towers are keen to help learners as everyone remembers how tricky it was to learn and is keen to help.  In any event you will get to know more ringers which will have both social and ringing benefits.

If you visit several towers in an area whilst on holiday, that can help you achieve another ringing thing – to ring at 50 different towers.

Before leaving, remember to put a small donation in the belfry box (most towers have them); it’s always appreciated.

Before going to an unfamiliar tower check ringing times in advance
