Training courses for bell ringing are quite unlike any other course you have ever been on. For a start they tend to be free (with a donation for the tower upkeep and perhaps refreshments). Then there will be only a few learners and plenty of helpers who all want you to succeed. And the trainer will very skilfully guide the ringing to get the best out of you (better than you even think!). You can even take part in online courses via Skype or Zoom! What’s not to like?
You will see them advertised in ringing publications or online, or ask someone from your local ringing society about the availability of courses that will be suitable for your ringing ability. You may need to consult with your mentor or Tower Captain. Attend a course that will help you progress, not just for the sake of ticking off another challenge.
There are a number of weekend residential courses as well as locally run day or half day courses and workshops, plus an increasing amount of online courses which can be done from home. Keep an eye on local ringing websites or posters or arrange one yourself via ART in your area.
If there’s something you’d really like to learn, but no suitable courses, you could instead complete another challenge by organising a special practice yourself.
Enjoy ringing with new people and do some “networking” to widen your circle of ringing friends and towers.
