A ringing quiz can be a fun addition to a social event or a useful way of reinforcing a skill or method learned at a training course or practice night. Researching the quiz will increase your ringing knowledge. However, if you’re a novice ringer it might be best if you had your answers checked by another ringer beforehand and don’t rely on a single information source for your questions.
When designing your quiz remember that ringing has lots of different aspects. See if you can strike a balance between them all:
- Famous towers or bells – where would your find “Great Tom”
- Local towers – a name that church picture quiz?
- Ringing hardware – what is the “fluffy” section of the rope called?
- Methods – name the method?
- Call changes – name the changes (there are some really obscure ones!)
- History & ringers – in what century was full circle ringing introduced?
Don’t make your questions too hard or too easy for your audience and if your audience is mixed then create teams. If you’re stuck, a quick internet search on the term “bell ringing quiz” brings up lots of ideas which should get you started.
