Over the years I have taught many people to ring; some have stayed, some haven’t, but this year I have had what I consider to be my greatest success, which is that I have successfully mentored my first new teacher. I found that it was a big responsibility and the most challenging part was making sure I imparted encouragement and confidence to my teacher, who I know felt quite anxious. What is even better for me is that my new teacher, Jan Tomlinson, is also a member of my local band so I really feel this adds greatly to the strength of the band, not as change ringers, but as a group of people who wish to learn, and where learning is a really positive experience.
