Come and learn, screamed the poster, any age any ability. So a quick chat with a member of the Ely St Mary’s band and I arrived at Stretham R.E.C. I was fascinated and captivated immediately, on crutches and faced with climbing the spiral staircase the reward was well worth it.
Concerned as I was about my physical shortcomings I soon realised that, although there was pain, the smart and thoughtful ringing style being taught, as well as teachers whose excellent patient and varied teaching styles allowed you to make mistakes without fear, except excessive stay bumping, overcame any fears I had. Learning with others created a supportive atmosphere and one I would recommend.
LtR Level 1 done, hopefully Level two soon and I have no intention of stopping. I’m pleased to be a welcome member of the Ely District Association and especially the St James, Stretham band and I would recommend the whole friendship of bell ringing to anyone, especially those younger than me.
