This popular course from the ART Training Scheme will be tutored by Paul Lewis at St Peter’s Kineton on the 6th January, 2018.
Starting at 10am, the course will include both theory and practical aspects of teaching foundation skills for ringers who are progressing from bell handling and rounds up to and including plain hunt. It is particularly helpful for anyone who is working with a new-ish band or who has ongoing recruitment at their tower which means foundation skills are being taught.
The emphasis is on breaking down these important basic skills into manageable steps so that the ringer can develop their ringing abilities with confidence, making it easier to progress into methods later on if they wish to.
Theory on coaching, running a successful practice, setting manageable goals, planning a practice and managing a band will be covered, whilst practical exercises in the tower include Kaleidoscope ringing, how to teach call changes, introducing plain hunt, tenoring behind, awareness of place, listening skills and ropesight.
Lunch can be provided (sandwiches in the Church) or delegates are welcome to make their own arrangements. Teas and coffees will be available throughout the day and there are toilets in the Church. The course should finish at 5.30pm, following which delegates will go away and begin putting what they learned into practice, working towards accreditation with ART if desired.
The accreditation process involves recording practice plans and reviews in a log book, taking an online theory quiz based on material covered during the course and arranging a visit from an ART Assessor to observe the teacher working with their band in the tower.
Although this course is ideal for existing Tower Captains and ringing masters, it is also suitable for those who would like to get involved in teaching in future, perhaps running workshops and focussed sessions for foundation level ringers.
Delegates need to be able to handle a bell confidently, raise and lower in peal and ring a minimum of plain hunt doubles on any bell.
Course fees are £20 payable to ART and a £10 local contribution (payable in advance) will cover lunch and refreshments if desired.
