This is the first module of the ART Training scheme – teaching bell handling. Tutored by Graham Nabb, the course will take place in the Teaching Centre at Worcester Cathedral on Monday 9th April and is suitable for teachers of all levels of experience.
Those who are new to teaching will learn how to teach bell handling in a safe and effective way, by breaking it down into small stages that the ringer can perfect individually before starting to put them all together. As the techniques are taught initially with the bell in the ‘down’ position, it is ideal for new teachers or nervous learners as confidence and skills can be built up gradually. Experienced teachers also regularly enjoy these courses as a way of gaining new ideas and extending their skills, and they may choose to support a newer teacher by mentoring them after the course once they start putting everything into practice.
The course starts at 10am. and there will be a break for lunch. Teas, coffees and soft drinks will be available throughout the day and parking is available at the Cathedral (please contact Mark Regan for further details).
After the course, teachers are encouraged to start teaching handling as soon as possible so that everything can be put into practice. Teachers can work towards accreditation with ART by recording their teaching in a log book (supplied), completing an online theory quiz and passing an observed session with a visiting ART Assessor. Teachers will also have full access to the Learning the Ropes scheme and can add their ringers so that they can take part in the programme, gaining certificates as they progress.
Course fees are £20 payable to ART.
If you would like to request a space on the course, please fill in the application form on the SmART Ringer calendar which can be found here.
