On the 7th July, ART Tutor Lesley Boyle will be presenting a module 1 course (teaching bell handling) at Basildon Bell Tower which is the iconic glass sided tower, housing 8 bells with an 11cwt tenor.
Suitable for both experienced teachers and those who are new to teaching handling, the M1 course teaches delegates how to break down bell handling skills into individual, progressive steps starting with the bell in the ‘down’ position so that ringers can gradually develop each individual movement in a safe way before joining them together and handling a bell independently.
After the day course, delegates are encouraged to put everything into practice straight away by working towards accreditation through practical experience – teaching someone to handle a bell and recording the lesson plans in a teacher’s log book. New teachers will ideally work with a more experienced teacher (in a mentoring role) or in pairs / groups so that there is mutual support. Course delegates will also have access to register their new ringers onto the Learning the Ropes scheme which is progressive, starting with basic bell handling (Level 1).
Basildon Bell Tower is very centrally located and there is a nearby car park. Course delegates are invited to go to the pub for lunch, or make their own arrangements.
Course fees are £20 payable to ART and anyone interested in requesting a space can use the online booking form here:
