On the 23rd February, Christ Church in North Shields will be hosting a module 2 C course, which focusses on methods of teaching early change ringing skills. The course tutor will be Moira Johnson.
As well as discussing ways to teach foundation skills, the day course will cover activities and unusual methods to aid learning of early methods such as bob doubles, grandsire and bob minor by breaking these down into gradual steps which are easily understandable as new ringers develop their skills.
The course is a mixture of practical work in the tower and some theory presentations / discussions. Leadership skills, running an effective practice, standing behind and giving timely, useful advice are also covered – making this course ideal for existing Tower Captains or Ringing Masters as well as for those who aspire to teach or help run practices.
No teaching experience is necessary to take part, although experienced teachers often say they thoroughly enjoyed the course as there are lots of ideas which can be put into practice straight away.
After the course, all delegates will be given access to SmART Ringer where teachers can register ringers to take part in the LtR scheme, access teaching resources and take a fun theory quiz to consolidate what was covered on the day course.
Teachers are also issued with a teaching log book in which they can record their practice plans and reviews, write notes and comments about what went well and what they’d do differently next time. Once this booklet is completed, a teacher can arrange for an ART assessor to come along to one of their practices and hopefully sign off the teacher for accreditation with ART for Module 2 C.
