Publicise ringing on social media

Out and About

social mediaSocial media can be a great way to spread the word about ringing in general, and in your local area. Publicity on social media should always be positive and should never be critical of people whether they are ringers or not.

Publicising your ringing to your friends/followers can show them more about a hobby they may not otherwise know much about. Have a go at …

  • ‘Checking-in’ on Facebook to your local tower on practice night, or perhaps checking-in at each tower during a ringing outing
  • Post about your ringing on Facebook, Twitter or other website – let your friends know what you achieved, ie “Rang Bob Doubles for the first time tonight – delighted!”
  • Promote your tower/band on social media. Speak to your Tower Captain about this first, but with their permission you can use social media to raise the profile of your band. Before each practice night put a post saying about what you’re planning to ring tonight and afterwards you could post about how it went. Use hashtags relevant to your local area, ie your town, village or county. Use the hashtag #bellringing too!
  • If you have a special event, recruitment day or fundraising project then use social media to post about it to gain more local attention. You could also post about it in local groups for your area on Facebook. Ringing for Christmas or New Year are good opportunities to post.
  • Photos are great to post – of your ringing adventures and fellow ringers. Use your smartphone to capture a practice or an outing perhaps. Always ensure that you always get the permission (or their parent/guardian’s permission) of anyone you’re photographing before posting online.

There are many ringing Facebook groups – some for new ringers others dealing with technical areas. Search Facebook, Twitter and other media too see what you can find. Make sure you contribute on the Facebook 50 Ringing Things Facebook page.

The SmART Ringer has a blog which you may wish to use, particularly if it relates to your experiences with the 50 Ringing Things challenge. You can use the links at the bottom of each blog post to share the articles too.
