SmART Ringer provides material and resources both for teachers and ringers
When you register your new ringers on the scheme, they will also be sent log in information so that they can access things that could be useful for them. Anyone new to ringing can benefit from materials which support their journey through the Learning the Ropes progress booklet. For example:
- a video of a bell being rung up
- worksheets on understanding how call changes work
- bell handling tips
- jargon de-coders
- worksheets on plain hunt, bob doubles, bob minor and other commonly rung foundation methods.
ART hopes that these will help to reinforce what they are learning with you at the tower and offer them the opportunity to keep learning in between practices.
Apart from resources, what else does it provide?
Ringers who are registered on SmART Ringer will appear in your ‘Manage Ringers’ area when you log in. You can record their progress through the LtR scheme by submitting a certificate request each time they complete a level in their Personal Progress Logbook. Even adult ringers can find these really motivating – we all like to have our achievements and hard work recognised.
ART has recognised what others in education have discovered, that people continue with hobbies and interests where they feel they are making progress. Having the next LtR level as a goal can really help keep new ringers interested and if they also start setting their own personal goals as well, they are very likely to keep ringing.
Will information I submit about my ringers be shared with any third parties?
No, we only ask for their email addresses so that we can send ringers a welcome letter. Occasionally we might write to ringers alerting them to things that might be of interest to them, but we certainly do not pass on contact details to anyone outside of ART.
What about young ringers?
When you register a ringer, the forum asks you to estimate their approximate age bracket. If a ringer under 18 is submitted, we record this fact in our system. If you are registering a ringer under 16, we ask that you also submit an email address for their parent or guardian so that they can be copied in on any correspondences. We take any data we hold about young ringers very seriously and this is in line with our child protection policy.
If a ringer gives up, is their name going to remain on my teaching profile?
No, if any of your ringers decide that ringing is not for them, you can simply log into your ‘manage ringers’ area, select the ringer who has given up and mark them as ‘lapsed’ – there is the opportunity to record a reason why they’ve stopped, but you can leave this blank if you wish. Their name will then disappear from your list and they will no longer receive any correspondence from ART.
If you have any questions about the process of registering your ringers, please contact either the ART Administrator or your Day Course Tutor, both of whom will be glad to help.
