New teachers who are just starting out will learn how to teach a learner to handle a bell in a safe, effective way by breaking the process down into small stages which a new ringer can individually perfect before starting to gradually join these movements together.

As the ART Teaching approach recommends starting with the bell ‘down’, this is ideal for nervous learners or new teachers as confidence and skills can be built up gradually.

More experienced teachers can also gain new ideas and insights, extending their teaching skills – they may also choose to support a newer teacher by mentoring them after the course and helping them to put everything into practice.

The Knaresborough course starts at 10am and there will be a break for lunch – course delegates are advised to make their own arrangements or bring sandwiches, although hot drinks can be made throughout the day. Knaresborough is a Tourist Town and has a wide variety of places to eat at – the Town centre is only a short walk from the Church.

Parking is unrestricted in the Church hall car park and it’s best to arrive via Vicarage Lane which is just off the High Street (the A59). Toilets are available in the Church hall and theory sessions will take place in the meeting room, just a few yards from the Tower.

After the course, teachers are encouraged to start teaching handling as soon as possible, so that they can put everything into practice whilst it is still fresh in the mind. By recording teaching in their log books, teachers can work towards accreditation with ART. There is also an online theory quiz to help and delegates can review the course materials at any point after the course on SmART Ringer website. Teachers will also have full access to the Learning the Ropes scheme and can add their ringers so that they are able ot take part in the programme, gaining certificates as they progress.

Course fees are £20 payable to ART.
